Sailing the Aegean Aboard Star Clipper
If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring Greece by sea, there’s something incredibly special about doing it aboard a traditional tall ship.
This summer, I had the opportunity to sail the Greek Islands aboard Star Clipper, a beautiful four-masted sailing ship carrying just 170 passengers, and it was one of the most memorable travel experiences I’ve ever had.
From the moment I stepped onboard in Athens, I knew this would be different from a traditional cruise. With towering masts, billowing sails and polished teak decks, the ship captures the romance of classic sailing, and there’s something magical about hearing the creak of the rigging, watching the crew work high above in the masts and sailing across the brilliant blue waters of the Aegean.

Life Onboard
What made the experience even more special was the warm and relaxed atmosphere onboard.
With 76 crew members, the service was incredibly personal and attentive, and it didn’t take long for fellow travellers to become newfound friends.
Dining was another highlight, with fresh, beautifully prepared meals, Greek specialities, seafood and a new menu to enjoy each evening. Some of my favourite moments were spent around the dinner table sharing stories, laughter and a glass of wine with people we had only just met.
It’s this combination of wonderful people, great food and the shared experience of sailing together that gives Star Clipper its unique sense of camaraderie and makes you feel like part of a family at sea.

Island Hopping Through the Aegean
The itinerary was perfectly balanced. After leaving Athens, we spent a full day at sea, a chance to relax, swim in the pool, read in the sun, sip a cocktail, and watch the sails unfurl. From there, each stop revealed a different side of the Aegean.
Dikili, Turkey: We wandered local markets, sampled fresh pastries, and spent the afternoon swimming at Kayra Beach Club.
Limnos: A tranquil harbor town where we wandered charming streets, browsed little shops, savored fresh seafood by the waterfront, and ended the day with a refreshing swim and creamy gelato.
Skiathos: My personal favorite. We rented a car, blasted ABBA, and spent the day beach-hopping, before lunch at Panorama Restaurant in the hills with stunning panoramic views.
Skopelos: Famous from Mamma Mia!, we climbed 200 steps to the iconic chapel and swam at Kastani Beach, a slice of pure island bliss.
Poros: Our final stop, with neoclassical houses, charming shops, and a chance to try watersports before heading back to Athens.

What Makes Star Clippers So Special
What makes Star Clippers different isn’t just where you go, it’s how you get there. Sailing under towering white sails, rather than cruising on a massive liner, is a completely unique experience. It’s intimate, authentic, and deeply relaxing.
When we finally docked back in Athens, I wasn’t ready to leave. I felt refreshed, connected, and completely at ease, like I had experienced Greece in the most genuine way possible.
