Setting Sail from Amsterdam

Our adventure began in the vibrant city of Amsterdam, where the charm of the canals and the buzz of the city set the perfect tone for our journey. As we boarded our luxurious river cruise, I couldn’t help but feel excited about the adventures that lay ahead. Amsterdam’s stunning architecture and rich history were just a taste of what was to come!

A Stop in Nijmegen

Our first stop was Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands, where history meets vibrant modern life. Strolling through its charming streets, I was captivated by the blend of ancient architecture and contemporary cafes. The atmosphere was buzzing, and I couldn’t wait to dive into the local culture.

A Visit to Woudsend

Next up was the delightful village of Woudsend, where we discovered the art of traditional Dutch boat building. Wandering along the canals felt like stepping into a postcard! The tranquility of the waterways was simply mesmerizing, and the friendly locals added to the charm of the experience.

Culinary Delights in Rotterdam

Now, let’s talk about food! Rotterdam was a culinary highlight of the trip. I indulged in
Poffertjes, those delightful little Dutch pancakes, fluffy and dusted with powdered sugar. But the real treat?
Bitterballen—crispy, savory snacks that were simply addictive! I paired these with a local craft beer called
Sweet Baby Jesus! while enjoying the lively atmosphere at a local brewhouse right on the waterfront of the Maas River (part of the Rhine River). It was the perfect setting for a delicious meal, surrounded by the sounds and sights of the bustling riverside.

Cycling Through De Hoge Veluwe National Park

One of the most exhilarating experiences was cycling through De Hoge Veluwe National Park near Arnhem.

Imagine gliding through lush forests and open fi elds, with wildlife darting around. The fresh air and beautiful landscapes felt like a breath of fresh Dutch air (pun intended!). It was the perfect way to connect with nature and appreciate the country’s stunning biodiversity.

A Private Viewing of a Masterpiece

To cap off our artistic adventure, we enjoyed a private viewing of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring at the Mauritshuis in The Hague.

Standing just a few feet away from this iconic painting felt surreal. The attention to detail and the emotion in her gaze was simply captivating. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that left me in awe of Dutch artistry.
