As a travel agent, I’ve planned countless vacations for clients – from tropical getaways to European city-hopping adventures. But nothing quite prepared me for the breathtaking beauty and sheer scale of my road trip through Western Canada. Driving from Vancouver to Jasper, with stops in Whistler, Kelowna, Banff, and Lake Louise, was not just a professional exploration – it was a personal adventure that reminded me why I fell in love with travel in the first place and in the end, decided to move to Canada!
The Urban Getaway
The journey began in Vancouver, a city where the ocean meets mountains and modern life blends seamlessly with the outdoors. I always recommend clients spend at least two days here. Stanley Park is a must – biking around the Seawall with views of the harbor and forests is unbelievable. Granville Island’s food market is a delight, and for those who love a panoramic view, a ride up Grouse Mountain is well worth it. The city’s vibe is easygoing yet vibrant – perfect start to a road trip.
Wine Country Charm
Next, I headed inland to Kelowna, located in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. This region is one of Canada’s top wine-producing areas, and the rolling vineyards overlooking Okanagan Lake are stunning. I toured several wineries (yes, tastings included!), and each one offered not just incredible wine but also warm hospitality. Kelowna has a Mediterranean feel – sunshine, lakefront beaches, and a relaxed pace. It’s the perfect mid-trip stop to unwind.
The Crown Jewels of the Rockies
From Kelowna, the drive into Banff National Park is jaw-dropping – towering peaks, glacier-fed rivers, and wildlife around every bend. Banff town is a quaint mountain hub full of charm, but the surrounding scenery steals the show. I hiked the Tunnel Mountain trail for sweeping views and soaked in the Banff Upper Hot Springs afterward. I highly recommend taking the trip up to Banff Gondola and getting the best views of Banff.
Lake Louise was next, and it’s every bit as stunning in person as it is in photos. The turquoise lake, backed by glaciers and rugged peaks, is otherworldly. I paddled a canoe on the water and hiked to the Lake Agnes Tea House for a well-earned cup of tea with a view.
Rugged and Raw
The Icefields Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper is arguably the most beautiful road I’ve ever driven. Waterfalls, glaciers, and wildlife appear around every turn. Jasper itself feels wilder and less polished than Banff, which I loved. I took the SkyTram up Whistlers Mountain and watched the sun set over a vast, untouched landscape. Another favourite ‘pinch me’ moment was Maligne Lake and going over to Spirit Island which is one of the most photographed views of The Canadian Rockies.

This road trip reawakened my passion for Canada’s natural wonders. As a travel agent, I now recommend this route to clients seeking both adventure and tranquility. Western Canada offers a rare blend of pristine wilderness and world-class hospitality – and it’s all accessible by car.
