Texas Charm Meets Oklahoma Spirit

There’s nothing quite like exploring the heart of America – where cowboy culture, small-town charm, and big-city surprises all meet.

On this trip, I started in Grapevine, Texas, just minutes from Dallas Fort Worth Airport, and then crossed the border into Oklahoma for a road trip full of history, culture, quirky stops, and unforgettable experiences.

If you’re looking for an itinerary that mixes wine country, heritage trails, holiday magic, and wide-open adventure, this one’s for you.

HOT TIP: Quick and Easy Exit from Dallas Fort Worth Airport

If you’re arriving at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on an international flight, you can often clear immigration, collect your bags, and exit the airport in as little as 30 minutes – especially during off-peak hours or if you qualify for Mobile Passport Control.

Club Med Bintan: All-Inclusive Relaxation

I recently was lucky enough to spend four nights at Club Med Bintan and slipped into holiday mode almost immediately.

Getting there is part of the ease: it’s a quick hop from Singapore, about an hour by ferry from Tanah Merah to Bintan, going from city buzz to beach breeze in the time it takes to watch an episode of your favourite show. This also offers the opportunity to enjoy a city stay and an island escape in the one trip.

On arrival to Club Med Bintan, the team were unfailingly friendly and helpful, the kind of genuine service where nothing is too much to ask, and that tone sets the pace for the whole stay. From the moment I arrived, everything felt intentionally easy.

Resort Pools

First impressions: effortless and welcoming

Check-in was smooth and cheerful, and one tiny detail made a big difference all week: the resort bracelet doubles as your room key. A quick tap and you’re in, no card to misplace, nothing to stash while you swim or head to activities. It sounds small, but it keeps the day light and hands-free.

The property is beautifully spread out. Paths wind through tidy, tropical gardens so you’re walking in dappled shade and the beach sits right in front of the main hub, with soft sand and calm water that’s perfect for paddle boards and splashy swims. Loungers are plentiful, and there are quiet nooks, little terraces and sofa corners, where you can sneak a coffee, answer a message, or just listen to the waves. Staff greet you as you pass, and it never feels forced; it sets a relaxed rhythm you fall into quickly.

Good to know: shady seating near the beach fills first; grab a spot after breakfast if you want front-row ocean time.

Beach Bar

Beach Bar with your feet in sand and a drink in hand

What’s included (and it’s plenty)

This is all-inclusive that genuinely covers the bases. The main restaurant rotates themes across generous buffets, so you don’t get menu fatigue: fresh salad bars, made-to-order pastas and grills, Asian favourites (noodles, curries, stir-fries), and a dessert table that tests willpower daily. There are easy options for kids and a handful of healthier plates if you’re trying to balance indulgence with “I still want to feel good in my swimmers”.

Bars are dotted around the resort, so a cold drink is never far. Iced coffees by day, cocktails by late afternoon, and mocktails for non-drinkers. The beauty of Club Med is the flow between activities: you can ping-pong from paddle boards to a fitness class to beach time without ever thinking about add-ons or carrying a wallet. Tennis, archery, snorkel outings, yoga with a sea breeze, you just rock up and the team will kit you out and get you going.

What stood out was how approachable everything felt. Staff give clear briefings and gentle one-on-one tips, so trying something new, whether it’s the catamaran, the trapeze, or your first serve in years, feels safe, supported, and fun rather than intimidating. If you’re more “lounger than launcher”, that’s ok too; the point is choice without pressure.

Good to know: popular classes and the trapeze fill up, so glance at the daily schedule at breakfast and pencil in anything you don’t want to miss.

Renovations underway: fresh look incoming

The resort is currently in the midst of a refresh, and I’m genuinely excited to see how it all comes together. The team are great at communicating any works and keeping the holiday vibe front and centre with discrete time windows, smart detours, and plenty of alternative spaces so nothing feels “closed off.” The upgrades promise lighter, brighter rooms and thoughtful touches.

I can’t wait to come back and see the finished look. If the service and current experience are anything to go by, the facelift will elevate what already works beautifully.

Evenings with a little sparkle

Nights come with a playful sense of occasion. There are themed dress-up evenings, with 45/88 Night a staple, and a rotation of other themes like tropical or all white. You can go all-in or keep it simple; add a scarf, a bright lip, or a white tee, and you’ll still feel part of the fun. The shared spirit makes dinner and the after-dinner shows feel like a celebration rather than “just another buffet”.

The shows are delightfully high-energy. Think acrobatics, dance, live vocals, and afterwards the vibe bleeds into the bar with music, a bit of dancing, and the easy mingling that happens when everyone’s on holiday time. It’s also when you notice how connected the team are with guests; they remember names, favourite drinks, and who’s brave enough to try the next day’s trapeze.

Good to know: pack one “dress-up” outfit (or a couple of accessories) so you can lean into theme nights without overthinking it.

The spa and why I’d go back

The spa was the surprise hero. Treatment rooms feel serene without being stuffy; therapists genuinely listen and adjust pressure and technique to what your body needs, not a script. Pricing is refreshingly fair for the quality, which makes a second booking feel like an easy yes. I went once, went back again, and would happily plan future afternoons around those appointments.

If you love a golden-hour glow, aim for late afternoon or sunset slots; stepping out to the sound of the ocean with loose shoulders and a clear head is peak holiday. Post-treatment, wander straight to the beach bar for a tea or a spritz and watch the sky change.

Rooms, meanwhile, are exactly what you want on a beach break: good beds, cold air-con, blackout curtains, and quick access to the pool and sea so the whole experience flows from restful sleep to easy days and back again. Storage is sensible, showers are strong, and housekeeping is quietly efficient; fresh towels appear, sand disappears, and you never have to think about it.

Good to know: book spa times early in your stay. Prime sunset slots are popular, especially on check-out eve.

Day Spa Garden Walk

Beautiful paths and garden views of the Spa

Club Med Bintan is a sweet spot for travellers who want the decision-fatigue taken out of their holiday without losing the fun. Couples slide easily into lazy beach mornings, spa-soaked afternoons and sunset cocktails; families (teens included) get a ready-made menu of things to try, and multi-gen groups or friends’ getaways can peel off to do their own thing, before regrouping for dinner and the evening shows. It’s also wonderfully kind to solo travelers, the staff are warm, the activities are social, and there are plenty of quiet corners when you want a breather.

If you’re chasing an effortless, friendly, genuinely all-inclusive beach escape, with staff who make you feel looked after, activities you’ll actually try, and a spa that punches well above its price, Club Med Bintan delivers. It’s the kind of place where the logistics disappear and you just… play, rest, repeat.
